Formspring Friday: The Best Thing About Being Pregnant

Jill, I've heard that some women have heightened orgasms during pregnancy. Did you experience this? Did it change your sex drive at all?

Yes on all counts!  Pregnancy brought on a lot of changes, and many of them had to do with my sexual response cycle.  My entire body was more sensitive to arousal during my pregnancy.  The slightest touch turned me on even if it wasn't necessarily sexual in nature.  As a result, sex was much more intense than it had been up until that point.

I was also horny all the time, and I mean all the time.  I can say without exaggeration that Jack is thinking about sex at least 99% of the time, whereas I'm probably thinking about it closer to 75% of the time.  But when I was pregnant I thought about sex almost constantly.  At times it was difficult to focus on everyday life as a result, but because I was pregnant I would just blame it on fatigue.

And yes, I definitely experienced heightened orgasms when I was pregnant.  They were deeper and more profound, and of significantly greater intensity.  They radiated throughout my entire body.  The orgasms I'm having now are so intense I almost can't imagine anything better.  And then I remember the orgasms I had when I was pregnant.  There's no comparison.

My orgasms were also easier to achieve, longer lasting, and much more plentiful.  The word that comes to mind is "electrifying".  My body was so sensitive to physical sensation that it didn't take nearly as much to get me off.  I would say that clitoral stimulation took half as long to lead to orgasm as it would right now.  Also, the same stimulation that might ordinarily result in four or five climaxes led to twice as many when I was pregnant.  And despite the satisfaction brought about by these incredible orgasms, I wanted more sex as soon as we were finished.

I'm not sure whether it was pregnancy itself or simply being off the pill, but my pregnancy was one of the most amazing times of my life, sexually speaking.  Since becoming parents we've tried to maintain the pace.  It hasn't been easy, but considering that we have a very active child in our lives twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, I think we're doing a pretty good job.
